It’s National Apprenticeship Week from 5-9 March 2018, and the NHS is keen to highlight the broad range of opportunities that are available to all across the country.

Did you know there are around 350 different careers in the NHS?  It takes a lot of different people with various skills to keep the NHS running, and you might be surprised at the wide range of roles and opportunities available – from estates to health and social care, housekeeping and IT to business admin and accounting!

Health Education England – the national body responsible for ensuring the NHS has the right people with the right skills, values and behaviours to deliver excellent healthcare – is running a national social media campaign during National Apprenticeship Week 2018.  The campaign aims to raise awareness of the wide range of apprenticeship opportunities that are available across the health service and particularly to celebrate the stories of NHS apprentices who have a disability – whether a physical disability, a learning difficulty or disability, a long term health condition, mental health condition or any other kind of disability.

The campaign marks the start of a broader drive to ensure that apprenticeships across the NHS are inclusive and accessible to those with disabilities.  Last year, around 400 people who declared themselves to have a disability undertook an apprenticeship in the NHS.  Health Education England and other partners are aiming to increase both the number and the proportion of disabled individuals accessing NHS apprenticeships through a series of planned programmes, recognising and celebrating that disabled people have a huge amount to contribute.
