Shaw Trust’s Vocational Rehabilitation project is based within the information services at The Christie NHS Foundation Trust in Manchester, and has provided life-changing support to over 1,300 cancer patients in just over three years.
The service offers cancer patients all-important guidance, helping them and their employers overcome any employment-related issues that they might face.
The project liaises with employers to educate them about cancer, advising them on how to support staff contending with the challenges of the disease, and teaming up with medical teams to raise awareness about the importance of work to patients’ recovery and self-esteem.
The project aims to help cancer patients break down their barriers to employment; taking up arms in the battle against cancer to ensure that the patients it supports are not defined or held back by the disease.
