On Tuesday, Reed in Partnership’s Restart Scheme team in Ashington held an event to support participants with their health and wellbeing.

Poor health and wellbeing can be a major barrier for individuals looking for sustained employment, so they invited a variety of organisations to speak with participants about the different things that they can do to feel their best both mentally and physically.

Attending organisations included Andy’s  Man Club who gave a talk about ending the stigma surrounding mental health, ESCAPE Family Support who held a session about the effects of alcoholism on families and what support is available, and Pure Gym who spoke to participants about the impact that a good diet and exercise routine can have on physical and mental health.

They also welcomed a variety of other exhibitors who were available throughout the day for participants to speak to, including Smart Works, CYGNUS Community wellbeing and mental health support, NE Autism, Northumberland Recovery College, Northumberland Public Health and Community Services, and more.

Attending participants had the opportunity to take home recipe kits complete  with the ingredients for a healthy homemade meal. They were also delighted to welcome back a Restart Scheme participant who has now become self-employed as a hairdresser who offered free haircuts to attendees.

A few participants who attended the event said:

”I got my hair trimmed and found lots of help with my mental health.”

”I learnt a lot about the voluntary work available and it was explained clearly.”

”The Andy’s Man Club workshop was very helpful for me, especially having the group chat.”
